What's included

  • CAA-certified Form W-7 application: an IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent partner drafts and submits it
  • Identity-document certification by the CAA, so you do not mail your passport to the IRS
  • Supporting-document review against the IRS allowable-use and exception rules before filing
  • Filing completed in 5 to 7 business days through the CAA partner
  • Engagement letter
  • Sanctions screen on the order plus Tier 1 KYC

What's NOT included

  • IRS processing time: 7 to 11 weeks after filing, outside the CAA partner's control
  • An EIN for a US LLC: a non-resident does not need an ITIN to get one (the SS-4 Foreign entry handles it; see EIN for Non-Residents)
  • Tax-return preparation or filing: we file the W-7, we do not do your taxes; we refer a US Enrolled Agent
  • ITIN renewal in future years (a separate filing when the number expires)
  • US bank account opening (separate post-formation flow)
  • Mail forwarding (we do not sell this)

We list what's not included on every product page so there are no checkout surprises.

When to choose this product

Operator-grade use case

The default when an individual genuinely needs a US tax identification number but cannot get a Social Security Number. The most common triggers are a US filing obligation, a treaty-benefit claim on US-source income, or a third party (a broker, a marketplace, a withholding agent) that requires a tax ID on a W-8 or W-9. The Certifying Acceptance Agent route exists so you keep your passport: the CAA certifies your identity documents in place of mailing originals to the IRS.

Most appropriate for non-US individuals with an actual US tax touchpoint: a foreign owner who has to file a US return, someone claiming a tax-treaty rate on US-source royalties or dividends, or a person a US counterparty will not pay until an ITIN is on file. The W-7 has to cite a valid reason, so this is for people who can name the specific obligation, not for speculative future use.

Less ideal for the non-resident who only wants to bank or operate a US LLC. That path runs on an EIN, and a non-resident gets an EIN with no SSN and no ITIN via the SS-4 Foreign entry; buying an ITIN first is a months-long detour you do not need. If the EIN is what you are actually after, use EIN for Non-Residents instead.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an ITIN, and do I need one?
An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number is an IRS tax ID for individuals who cannot get a Social Security Number. You need it only when you have a real US tax touchpoint: a filing obligation, a treaty-benefit claim on US-source income, or a counterparty that requires a tax ID on a W-8 or W-9. If you just want to bank or run a US LLC, you likely need an EIN instead, not an ITIN.
Do I have to mail my passport to the IRS?
No. Going through an IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent is the whole point: the CAA certifies your identity documents, so your passport stays with you. The CAA partner drafts and submits the Form W-7 and the supporting paperwork on your behalf.
How long does it take, and how do I pay?
The CAA partner completes the filing in 5 to 7 business days. IRS processing then runs 7 to 11 weeks, which is outside the partner's control. The $299 all-in price is settled in BTC, Lightning, or USDT via BitSettle.
Can I use an ITIN to get an EIN for my US LLC?
You do not need to. A non-resident gets an EIN for a US LLC with no SSN and no ITIN by writing Foreign in the responsible-party field of the SS-4. Applying for an ITIN just to get an EIN is a detour. We form the entity and file the W-7; we do not file your taxes, and we refer a US Enrolled Agent for that.
